Tile calculation seems straightforward but multiple variables affect the final order: tile size, room shape, wastage from cutting, dado height, and patterns. This calculator handles floor and wall tiles separately with the standard 10% wastage allowance recommended by Pakistani tile suppliers (Master, Shabbir, Sonex).
Floor area = room length × width. Add 10% for wastage from edge cuts, breakage and pattern matching. Divide by tile size in square feet to get tile count. For example: a 14 × 12 ft room is 168 sq ft floor area. With 10% wastage that is 185 sq ft. At 24 × 24 inch (4 sq ft per tile), you need 47 tiles. The calculator always rounds up, you can't buy partial tiles.
Wall tiles are calculated from room perimeter × wall height × coverage fraction. Standard kitchen back-splash is a 4 ft dado (half-height). Bathrooms typically tile full-height (8 ft) for waterproofing. Toggle wall tiles ON in the calculator and enter wall height to get an itemised count.
Large-format tiles (24 × 24 inch and above) are the modern standard for living rooms, dining and master bedroom floors. They show fewer grout lines and look premium. Small-format tiles (12 × 12 inch) are used for bathrooms and kitchen floors because they handle drainage slopes better. The calculator lets you switch between sizes to compare totals.
Standard local (Rs. 80-120/sft): Karam, Ravi, Naqsh, basic ranges from Shabbir. Suitable for rental properties and budget builds.
Premium local (Rs. 130-180/sft): Master Tiles premium ranges, Shabbir premium, Sonex premium. The most popular choice for owner-occupied homes in DHA, Bahria Town, Park View City.
Imported budget Chinese (Rs. 180-230/sft): Sourced through Karachi and Lahore wholesalers. Quality varies widely; inspect samples carefully.
Imported premium Spanish/Turkish (Rs. 250-350/sft): The premium choice for luxury master suites and entrance lobbies. Available in stores in DHA Y Block and main M.M. Alam Road.
Tile fitting labour in Lahore runs Rs. 40-70/sft depending on tile size, pattern complexity, and whether wall or floor. Large-format wall tiles cost more to fit because of weight and alignment. Pattern tiles (chevron, herringbone) cost 30-50% extra in labour. The calculator shows supply cost only; add fitting labour separately or ask Pillarstone for a combined supply-and-fit quote.
